About the Organization
Zaytuna College, America’s first accredited Muslim college, aims to restore the centrality of the pursuit of knowledge among Muslims that has always been the hallmark of the Islamic tradition. The primary mission of the college is “to educate and prepare morally committed professional, intellectual, and spiritual leaders, who are grounded in the Islamic scholarly tradition and conversant with the cultural currents and critical ideas shaping modern society.” Zaytuna aims to fulfill its mission by teaching the ancient skills of the Trivium—grammar, logic, rhetoric—as the foundation for a broader academic program that combines rigorous study in the great books of both the Western and Islamic traditions with comprehensive study of the most significant trends in Modernity. Drawing ultimately from the wisdom tradition of Islam, Zaytuna College offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in Islamic Law and Theology.

Zaytuna College is located in Berkeley, California, in two historic buildings in the neighborhood of the Graduate Theological Union, the largest consortium of religious schools in America.

Our Liberal Arts Foundation: The Trivium
Zaytuna believes that rigorous study in the traditional skills of grammar, logic, and rhetoric is not only essential to a proper college education, but also contributes to the refinement of the human person. Without mastery of these skills, language loses meaning, reason ceases to guide our thought, and our emotions seek in vain for measured expression. Zaytuna draws from the classical roots of the Islamic and Western traditions that exemplify the perfection of grammatical forms, the clarity of the methods of logic, and the eloquence of the canons of rhetoric. Once accomplished in these skills, the Zaytuna student can approach other courses, such as Law, Theology, History, Philosophy and the Sciences, “in an orderly and easy manner and without error.” Given that the Trivium is an integral part of the Zaytuna curriculum, the college expects all faculty members to have substantial experience in studying and teaching these traditional skills.

    Editorial Coordinator Print Favicon

    About the Position

We’re hiring an Editorial Coordinator to help support our Publications Department, which oversees all academic publications and academic events. We hope to find someone with the organizational abilities of an office manager, the writing skills of a grammarian, and the intellectual curiosity of a graduate student. It is also important that the Editorial Coordinator demonstrates interest in Islamic scholarship and in gaining a solid understanding of Zaytuna College’s liberal arts mission. This position reports to the Director of Publications.
